The votes are in and the clear beauty trend of the 2012 Annual Academy Awards red carpet was red lips in all its variations!  Even several of the spouses and interviewers (like my favorite Giuliana Rancic) wore red lips.

I loved so many of these looks, especially Milla Jovovich’s!  Great movement in her hair and a nice combination of pretty and dramatic on her makeup.   Other favorites were smokey-eyed beauties Jennifer Lopez and Penelope Cruz pairing their dramatic eyes with nude lips.

Funny girls Kristen Wiig and Tina Fey really looked their best on the hair and makeup front.

I thought Glenn Close looked the best she’s ever looked!  I also cheered when I saw Viola Davis showing off her natural hair.  Yeah!  Looking Good ladies…and talk about talent. Wow.

I woke up at 3AM to watch Kate Middleton marry Prince William and I was proud of Kate for staying true to her own style.  She looked radiant and happy and was pretty much a shoo-in for any Bride of the Year award. Then the September issue of Vogue arrived in all of its 600+ page goodness and I was treated to the most beautiful wedding party style I’d ever seen.  Kate Moss’s Gatsby-era English countryside wedding was my kind of fairytale.  Just look at this portrait by Mario Testino.  The girls’ rumpled waves, the garlands, the creamy color palette, the glowing faces…HEART!

I loved the relaxed texture of the waves in her hair and the simplicity of her makeup.

Of course the pièce de résistance besides Kate herself was the one-of-a-kind embroidered chiffon bridal gown by long-time friend John Galliano, for which he received a standing ovation from the guests after her father thanked him for making it in a speech.

Thank you Vogue for the eye candy!

I have always been obsessed with celebrity beauty.  I love watching award shows just to see who’s wearing what and then reading the recaps later in magazines.  There is usually one stand-out look each year that blows me a away at first sight.

BEST MAKEUP: This year it was Emma Stone’s red carpet appearance at the Golden Globes in a simple floor-length peach colored Calvin Klein dress with coordinating pretty peachy pink makeup that had me swooning.  Red carpet makeup is tricky.  You have to really amp it up so that it shows up on camera but it often looks way overdone when you zoom in.  This looks very fresh with a touch of drama and was a breath of fresh air on the smoky eye-filled awards circuit.  Her makeup artist used all mark. makeup – the super inexpensive subsidiary of Avon for the younger crowd.  It just goes to show you that you don’t need high end cosmetics to look fabulous.

BEST HAIRSTYLE: Diane Kruger had a great year in hair.  Several of her updos and old hollywood styles were outstanding but this is my favorite.  The softer modern take on finger waves combined with the side chignon and vintage hair jewelry…simply gorg!

BEST HAIRCUT:  I can feel hairdressers everywhere groaning as I type this.  They hate how every third person who comes into the salon is toting a Jennifer Aniston photo.  Yet I had to join the millions of Aniston hair fans when Chris McMillan chopped of her extensions into this lob (long bob) with textured ends.  The length, the sunny color, the imperfect part.  I love it!

The 2012 awards season is just days away.  Who will reign supreme this year?  I’ll be watching!  Images source: Getty Images.

From our family to yours, wishing you a very happy holiday season and our very best for the 2012 year!

This farewell cake was one of the most amazing gifts I’ve ever been given.  It took three days for my dear friend Victoria of Bite Me! Custom Cakes to make this stunning train case and the entire thing is edible – even the little CKB brushes.  I didn’t want to cut it or eat it but she forced me.  Delicious vanilla cream with raspberry compote.  Hello!

I love how the makeup shades are totally “wearable”.  Just look at the detail on the handles, trim, everything.  These are some “morning after” shots I took.  I wanted it to last forever.

Thinking about Victoria made me think of the many mommy friends I made in Jersey City and how precious they are to me.  We had babies together, we started businesses together, we played together, struggled together, some of us opted for round 2 on the babies, and we lost one of our own.  Our dearest Lisa passed away unexpectedly leaving a big permanent hole in each one of our hearts.

Between the playdates and the Moms’ nights out, all of these women (and many who aren’t pictured) gave me much needed encouragement and help with both my business and my day to day life.

Wouldn’t want to experience motherhood without them!

But before that, there were the DC years! Helping the world’s poorest people + happy hours + a whole lotta brunches.  We got to meet rock stars (BONO KISSED ME! I AM NOT KIDDING!) and presidents.

I got to put makeup on nearly every woman in these photos (and one guy…Seth! ha!) while each of them encouraged me to follow my secret dream of becoming a makeup artist someday.  I began doing makeup lessons and image consultations and the wheels were in motion.

Leaving the east coast after a whole decade was a huge decision and a very tough one.  I’m so glad that a little country girl like me got to see the inner workings of both NYC and DC.  The incredibly talented and fun people I met along the way shaped me and gave me so many great memories.

Thanks you guys.  Love you!!!
