My goal for this styled shoot was to create a hairstyle that was on trend at the moment (braids! a bit on the messy side!) but that hadn’t been seen before.  These are the things that keep me awake at night but in the very best way.  Our beautiful model had straight hair so I went to work curling and twisting away.  Her eyes were such a lovely shade of brown that I ended up doing a bit of eggplant colored smokiness on the eye makeup and blackberry stained lips.  You can imagine my thrill when Style Me Pretty decided to publish this and called the hairstyle “out of this world” on their Facebook page.

Watching Corinne Krogh photograph someone is such a treat.  She has an amazing eye for detail and creates such beautiful vignettes when she works.  It’s hard for me to keep calm sometimes when I see her vision come together!  I was surprised at how lush and romantic Lan Su Chinese Garden felt at dusk.  There is something very mysterious and beautiful at every turn.  These images are simply breathtaking.

I was elated when Elizabeth Anne Designs blog published this styled boudoir shoot earlier this year.  I LOVE collaborating with Brittany Lauren Photography because she completely gets my esthetic and trusts my creative eye.  She has such a natural sense of what looks great and I love to watch her work.  Brittany and I both wanted to create romantic boudoir images that were lovely and sensual and had a fine art feel to them.  We also put a hint of vintage styling into the shoot with authentic vintage wardrobe pieces and furniture.  Dramatic eyes tend to be the norm with boudoir but I wanted this look to have more of an emphasis on glowy, flushed skin.  Stained looks and simple eye makeup complemented this nicely. For the hair I opted for loose, tousled, imperfect waves.  Several of these images were shot with real film which give them that amazing texture that you only get from film.  In short, I love everything about this shoot!

Every bride has a dream for her hair and how she wants it to look on her wedding day.  Sometimes the dream is a very tall order for the stylist!  Luckily I love a good challenge.  Shelby’s hair was short (some pieces only a few inches long) and very thin.  She wanted a voluminous updo that made her look like she had a lot of hair.  It took five different products but we ended up with the most beautiful hairstyle.  I was happy to hear that she received a ton of compliments on it!  This image of Shelby waiting in her bridal suite at The Nines Portland by Lauren Brooks Photography instantly became one of my all time favorites.

Her makeup emphasized her eyes with bold liner, individually placed lashes, and a reddish cranberry lip color.  She also wore the cutest bird cage veil for the ceremony that played off her modern dress perfectly.

She and Jason were married on the rooftop of the Ecotrust Building.  It’s such a great choice for a stylish downtown Portland wedding.

Shelby is definitely in my bridal hall of fame as one of my favorite people.  She is so authentic and fun.  We had sooooo many laughs together during the process.  Her family was a hoot, too.

Cheers to you Shelby and Jason!  xxxooo

Oregon Bride Magazine beautiful Oregon image

I was so pleased to pick up a copy of Oregon Bride Magazine and see my cousin in it!  The article shows off Oregon’s fantastic scenery and interviews top wedding photographers about how they got the beautiful shots.  The morning of my cousin Olivia’s beach wedding I arrived to do her hair and makeup and it was drizzling outside. Her friends were gently trying to tell her to move her beach wedding indoors but she just flat out refused. She looked out the window onto the beach and smiled as if she just knew everything would be ok.  “We’re getting married on the beach no matter what.  I don’t care.” she said.  We looked at each other nervously as it continued to be misty outside when she left for the venue.  Just as I had resigned myself to it, the sun burst from behind the clouds and the rain just disappeared.  Josh Kincaid and Alice Falzone, her awesome photographers, were treated to a spectacular setting sun and they did not waste it.  They got so many incredible shots, including this steamy kiss shot by Alice in front of Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach.  Check out the Mosca Studio Blog for more stunners from the day.  Much love to my little Lulu and her amazing man Ryan whom we all adore.  xxxooo

The toughest thing about moving back to Oregon from New York is leaving easy access to incredible educational opportunities.  Luckily companies like Behind the Chair are using technology to bring those opportunities to people around the world.  I was lucky enough to participate in a webinar with Stephanie Brinkerhoff (aka Hair and Makeup by Steph) and learn all about her techniques for creating stunning on-trend updos.  When a client brings me inspirational photos for an updo they’ve found on pinterest, odds are at least one of the pictures will be of Steph’s work.  She has over 5 million pinterest followers!!! What I love about her hairstyles is that they have movement and look soft and touchable yet they are very secure underneath it all.  This is always my goal with hair too!  I learned a great deal and continue to be inspired by her work!
